Sailing Lessons

Summerside Learn to Sail offers both junior and adult sailing lessons. Scroll down to find out about training,  calendar as well as available grants and our boat fleet.

CanSail Level 1-2

  • Introduction and basic sailing on a dinghy. The session is two weeks from 9 am to 4 pm Monday to Friday. This training gives you an official CanSail certification from Sail Canada. 
  • There is no prerequisite to attend this training.
  • The price is 490$ per participant. You can register for the 2024 season here.

Start Keelboat Sailing

  • This course is ideal for individuals with limited on-water experience. The focus is on the initial development of practical skills while participating in the operation of a keelboat as a crew (https://www.sailing.ca/keelboat-cruising/). 
  • The session is a two to four day session for a total of 12 hours of both ashore knowledge and afloat skills.
  • There is no prerequisite to attend this training. Tell the instructor if you already took the Introduction to boating course.
  • The price is 520$ per participant. You can register for the 2024 season by contacting  syclearntocruise@gmail.com


Introduction to Boating

  • This course is intended to provide novice boaters the opportunity to experience the joys of boating. (https://www.sailing.ca/keelboat-cruising/). 
  • The session is 3 hours of both ashore knowledge and afloat skills.
  • There is no prerequisite to attend this training.
  • The price is 220$ per participant. You can register for the 2024 season here by contacting  SYClearntocruise@gmail.com

Our Staff Instructors

Our instructors have all the required training from Sail Canada:

Instructor In Training

IIT gives you a chance to polish your own skills and a chance to learn how to become a sailing Instructor.

As an IIT, you will be assigned to an instructor. Your tasks can range from rigging and launching the boats, sailing with beginners or demonstrating skills.

IIT is a volunteer position. We strongly suggest that you commit at least to a full day of volunteering. As a registered community organization, we will report all IIT hours in fall to be credited towards PEI post secondary bursary.

You must be 14 year old or older and be Cansail level 2, 3 or 4 to be an IIT.
